- Volkswagen Motorsport delighted with Kyalami blockbuster results
Volkswagen Motorsport’s Jonathan Mogotsi delivered a dominant performance to win the SATC SupaCup day at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit’s Blockbuster Extreme Festival by Coca-Cola on Saturday. Rookie Cup champion and Volkswagen Motorsport driver Judd Bertholdt meantime scored his maiden Astron Energy Polo Cup pole position in a sparkling effort on the day.
“Jonathan Mogotsi was the star of the show at Kyalami this weekend, “Volkswagen Head of Motorsport Mike Rowe confirmed. “His pole position was spectacular and both races brilliant, so we will take this overall victory with both hands. Our Astron Energy Polo Cup rookie Judd Bertholdt was also most impressive this weekend with a pole position and a fifth place in the second heat. It was a day of learning for SupaCup rookie Jason Loosemore, but he’s sure to bounce back even harder.”
SATC SupaCup champion Jonathan Mogotsi delivered an almost faultless weekend. “I love Kyalami, my team gave me a perfect Volkswagen Genuine Parts SupaPolo and I was able to turn a perfect lap for pole position,” a delighted Mogotsi beamed. “The first race was also very good, bar my mistake of hitting push to pass on the first lap, which cost me a small penalty and the race win, but we still scored good points in third. Race 2 went like a dream, lights to flag once again and the overall win to top it off. Thanks team, now for Gqeberha and our home race!”

SupaCup rookie and Astron Energy Polo Cup champion Jason Loosemore endured a tough weekend. After showing good pace in practice, qualifying never went quite as planned and Jason was caught in the race 1 bunch before retiring from heat 2. “Mama warned me there’d be days like this, but that’s how it goes in this game sometimes,” Jason shrugged. “So it’s back to the drawing board and here’s to a step forward at Aldo Scribante. Thanks to the team for a great Astron Energy Volkswagen Motorsport SupaCup, and all the support and understanding.”
Rookie Cup champion and Volkswagen Motorsport driver Judd Bertholdt enjoyed a most impressive second Astron Energy Polo Cup outing at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. “I still have some work to do in qualifying, which is a black art in Polo Cup, so we concentrated on getting the best starting position for race 2 and I was on pole!” Judd explained. “That was a baptism of fire though. I was shuffled down the pack to fifth but put my head down from there to bring it home in my best Polo result to date. Thanks to the team. Now I can’t wait for our home race!”
“Kyalami was a great weekend for Volkswagen Motorsport,” Mike Rowe concluded. “We have our home race next just down the road from the Volkswagen Plant Kariga and Motorsport headquarters and that’s always a favourite with all our favourite fans turning up. See you at Aldo Scribante on 10 May!”
