Solid start for the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and Schubert Motorsport in the 2025 DTM season. At the team’s home event at Oschersleben (GER), René Rast (GER) drove the #33 RoboMarkets BMW M4 GT3 EVO to the best result of the weekend, finishing fifth in Sunday’s race. Marco Wittmann (GER) displayed consistently strong performances in the #11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO, collecting many valuable points with eighth place on Saturday and sixth on Sunday.

At the tight Motorsport Arena in Oschersleben, Rast and Wittmann impressed, especially on Sunday with strong comebacks. The track layout does not play to the strengths of the BMW M4 GT3 EVO, and both drivers struggled in qualifying. Rast started the second race from P15 and, thanks to a very strong first pit stop, was even on course for a podium at one point. However, during the newly introduced second mandatory stop, he fell back slightly and ultimately finished fifth. On Saturday, Rast had to retire due to a technical issue.

Wittmann made a comeback in both races. On Saturday, he started from tenth place and finished eighth, and on Sunday, he did even better, moving up seven places from 13th to sixth thanks to equally strong pit stops by his crew. With 18 points, Wittmann leaves the first DTM venue in seventh place in the drivers’ standings, while Rast is twelfth with eleven points. As the defending champions, Schubert Motorsport is in fifth place in the team standings after two of 16 races with 29 points.

The ADAC GT4 Germany also kicked off its season at Oschersleben. The BMW M Motorsport teams achieved a total of six top-ten finishes with the new BMW M4 GT4 EVO.

Reactions after the race weekend:

Andreas Roos (Head of BMW M Motorsport): “A good start to the DTM season with fifth, sixth, and eighth places. Especially on Sunday, both BMW M4 GT3 EVOs were strong in fifth and sixth positions. Compliments to Schubert Motorsport for the strong pit stops. Unfortunately, there was a small issue during René Rast’s second stop, otherwise even more could have been possible. Nevertheless, important points at the start, but generally, we of course want to fight for victories and podiums. That is our goal for the upcoming race weekends. I also congratulate ROWE Racing on their third place in the second season race of the Nürburgring Endurance Series on Saturday on the Nordschleife. That was an important and successful test for the 24-hour race in June.”

Björn Lellmann (Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport): “This weekend, my focus was on both the BMW M4 GT3 EVO and the BMW M4 GT4 EVO. In the DTM, we had a mixed Saturday. More than eighth place for Marco Wittmann was simply not possible under the circumstances. Sunday went much better, and with fifth and sixth places, we collected important points for the championship. In the ADAC GT4 Germany, on Saturday, our BMW M Racing Academy member Berkay Besler, together with Gabriele Piana, was the fastest BMW M Motorsport driver in race one, finishing sixth. Niels Tröger, another Academy participant, was also in action at Oschersleben. In race two, as on Saturday, three BMW M4 GT4 EVOs again made it into the top ten. This is a solid start that we can build on for the rest of the season.”

Torsten Schubert (Team Principal Schubert Motorsport): “I am satisfied that we can take some important points from Oschersleben and thus still have all possibilities in the championship race. On Sunday, René Rast also benefitted from having fresher tyres left after his retirement on Saturday. At times, it even looked like a podium was possible. Unfortunately, the second pit stops didn’t go quite as well as the great first stops. But still, fifth and sixth places are a good yield.”

René Rast (#33 RoboMarkets BMW M4 GT3 EVO, R1: DNF, R2: 5th place): “I am very happy with the comeback to fifth place on Sunday. We had strong pace in the car and made significant progress through a great first pit stop. That there was a small issue during the second stop is not a big deal, as the guys generally always do a fantastic job. I am still very satisfied with the race result. Unfortunately, we had no pace on Saturday and also a small technical problem. That’s a shame and means that overall, I look back on a mixed weekend. It would be nice if we could compete on equal terms with the others from the start of the weekend next time, not just on Sunday.”

Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO, R1: 8th place, R2: 6th place): “We can be very satisfied with the results this weekend. Considering that Oschersleben is not the ideal track for our car, and seeing where we started from, I am very happy with eighth and sixth places. Unfortunately, I lost some positions in the early stages on Sunday and was quite far back. Thanks to a good strategy and great pit stops by the guys, I was able to fight back very well.”
