The Volvo EX30 has added another prestigious accolade to its growing list of achievements, being named EV of the Year at the TopGear South Africa Awards 2024.
The latest addition to the brand’s electric lineup was recognised for several factors, including its exceptional value for money. “EVs may have had a slow uptake in Mzansi, but the introduction of Volvo’s EX30 seems to have resonated with a slightly wider audience,” commented Lerato Matebese, Publishing Editor at TopGear SA Magazine.
In the first ten months of 2024, Volvo sold 348 units of the EX30, making it one of the most successful electric vehicles in South Africa.
“While government incentives would ensure an even wider acceptance of this technology, the EX30 seems to strike a fine balance between EV affordability and brand prestige,” added Matebese.
Since its debut, the EX30 has garnered numerous local and international accolades. Highlights include Auto Motor & Sport’s 2024 Car of the Year, TopGear UK’s 2023 Eco Warrior of the Year, and the coveted Red Dot Award: Best of the Best Product Design 2024.
“Winning EV of the Year at the TopGear South Africa Awards 2024 is a proud moment for Volvo and a recognition of what the EX30 represents,” said Felipe Yagi, Head of Marketing & Communications at Volvo Car South Africa. “Its advanced battery technology, impressive range, and competitive pricing have enticed myriad customers, reflected in the strong sales of our premium electric crossover.”
The local Volvo EX30 lineup comprises three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultra. Starting at R791,900, the EX30 Core stands out as one of South Africa’s most affordable premium electric crossovers. Meanwhile, the Ultra Twin Motor Performance delivers remarkable power, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds—demonstrating that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.
“This award affirms that Volvo is on the right path, pushing the boundaries of electric mobility while staying true to our core values of safety, quality, and innovation,” concluded Yagi.
