  • Audi SA’s R500,000 donation to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology reinforces its commitment to advancing critical skills
  • The funds were raised through the exclusive auction of the one-of-a-kind Audi RS6 Avant GT last year
  • This partnership enables Kutlwanong to extend its programmes, cultivating future leaders in STEM fields

Audi South Africa celebrated the official handover of a R500,000 donation to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology following the successful auction of its one-of-a-kind Audi RS6 Avant GT in November last year. The handover event, held at Audi South Africa’s head office in Johannesburg, marks an important milestone in the brand’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and the development of critical skills in South Africa.

This donation was made possible through the auction of the final edition Audi RS6 Avant GT at an exclusive event held at Cavalli Estate in Cape Town on 7 November 2024. The auction brought together motoring enthusiasts, collectors and philanthropists in support of a vehicle that represents the pinnacle of Audi’s engineering excellence and innovation. A key highlight of the auction was its dedication to making a meaningful social impact, with a portion of the proceeds designated for the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology.

Kutlwanong is a non-profit organisation committed to accelerating the quality and quantity of mathematics and natural sciences performance among the youth in underserved communities in South Africa. Founded in 2005, Kutlwanong focuses on nurturing a talent pool of professionals pursuing careers in scarce and critical skills such as commerce, engineering, science, mining, technology, and mathematics. Over the past 19 years, the NPO has cultivated future leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers, enabling youth to contribute meaningfully to the economy.

Sascha Sauer, head of Audi South Africa, commented: “We are immensely proud to support the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology with this donation. The Centre’s commitment to improving science, technology, engineering and mathematics [STEM] education aligns perfectly with Audi’s vision of progress and innovation. By growing a pipeline of talent in engineering and science, we not only empower South Africa’s youth but also contribute to the future of industries like automotive manufacturing that rely on these critical skills. This partnership reflects our belief in nurturing talent to build a brighter, more sustainable future.”

The R500,000 donation will enable the Kutlwanong team to extend the reach of its programmes, helping more young people achieve excellence in mathematics and natural sciences. These skills are essential for careers in fields that are vital to South Africa’s economy, including automotive manufacturing, and play a key role in shaping the country’s future workforce.

Kutlwanong’s proven track record in fostering academic success and professional growth makes it a fitting partner for Audi South Africa. The organisation’s focus on STEM education resonates deeply with Audi’s mission to inspire progress, innovation, and excellence across all spheres of society.

“Through initiatives like today’s handover, Audi South Africa continues to demonstrate its dedication to driving meaningful change beyond the automotive world,” concluded Sauer.
