Local motorsport publishing company, SA Motorsport Memories, previewed a new book at a function hosted by Toby Venter at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Several motoring media, contributing photographers and other dignitaries joined author Denis Klopper and his team at the announcement.
The high-quality large format book (280mm x 240mm) covering the vast and impressive competition history of Porsche at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit is available to pre-order. The 300-page hard cover book covers the full history of the Porsche brand dating back to the victorious opening 9 Hour race in 1961, up until the race winning return of the 9 Hour in 2019 including the brands last appearance to date at an international race held at Kyalami in early 2023.
The publication covers the Porsche cars, engines and drivers that raced at Kyalami in the international endurance races spanning a 60-year period. It also covers the Porsche 944 Turbo Cup Series which ran in South Africa from late 1987 until the end of the 1989 season. Other Porsche cars and drivers that competed in local series also feature in separate chapters. The book contains over 500 special images, most of which have never been published before, each accompanied by a detailed caption in both English and German. Statistics of all the races held cover car types, drivers, engine numbers and results. Legendary motoring scribes, including Roger McCleery, Stuart Johnston, Andre De Kock, Hendrik Verwoerd and Roger Houghton will pen a story of their unique Porsche Kyalami memories.
Four Porsche race cars, two Porsche 944 Turbo Cup and a Porsche 911 GT2R driven and owned by Toby Venter will also be featured in the book. These championship winning cars were joined at the early morning photo-shoot by the ex-Gary Dunkerley raced and Grant Viljoen owned SABAT Porsche 911 race car. The book will also detail the history of these four successful South African race cars. This world class publication will be dispatched during the second quarter of 2024.
