The 2025 Simola Hillclimb saw not only 86 competing cars on the official entry list, but also two brand new Suzuki GSX-R8 sport bikes. While the bikes are not officially timed up the hill, they proved that driving up the Simola Hill on two wheels is not only possible, but also spectacular and fun. The Japanese manufacturer’s new GSX-R8 sport bikes completed two runs each, with more action coming tomorrow.
“The Simola Hillclimb is an opportunity for us to release the Suzuki GSX-8R Cup to the public. It’s a single make series, it’s up and running, and we’d like to get as many riders as we can into a cost-effective racing series. For this weekend, we’ve got Nicole van Aswegen and Tristin Pienaar doing our demo rides. Tristin is our first sponsored rider out there. He’s won the first two heats in the category that he’s in, and we’re excited about his future.
In terms of showcasing the product, what better place to get all the press together and all the motoring guys to come along and have a look at our bikes? And let’s face it, if you like cars, you’ve got to like bikes. It’s also a lot of fun for the riders, and a good experience for them,” said Stuart Baker, Suzuki’s Sales Manager for Motorcycles.
The 2025 Simola Hillclimb will conclude tomorrow, but while the competitors will be fighting for spots in the Class Finals, Suzuki’s two motorbike riders will have no such pressures. Their only goal on the day will be to show off the stunning new GSX-R8 bikes, and to have fun in the process.
