  • Audi South Africa successfully auctioned the final edition of the current RS 6 Avant, a limited GT variant
  • Only 660 have been made available globally and just one in Africa, vehicle number 74
  • A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, an NGO performing amazing work educating school-going youth in underserved communities

Audi South Africa is proud to announce the successful sale of the final-edition Audi RS 6 Avant GT during an exclusive auction in Cape Town on 7 November 2024. The event featured the only RS 6 Avant GT available in Africa, number 74, making it a true collector’s item for local automotive enthusiasts. After a hotly contested round of bidding, the vehicle sold for R4,5 million.

With only 660 units produced globally, the RS 6 Avant GT represents the culmination of over two decades of passion, precision, and performance, signifying the end of an iconic era in the Audi lineup. This luxury automobile has come to redefine the family supercar category and is a testament to Audi’s relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence.

“The RS 6 Avant GT is an iconic vehicle that embodies the soul of Audi,” says Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. “This car showcases meticulous craftsmanship and a design inspired by the legendary 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car, telling a story of rich heritage and engineering prowess.”

Social cause underpinning auction

A key aspect to the auction was its commitment to social responsibility, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of mathematics and physical science education among South African youth, particularly in township schools and rural areas to enable them to pursue STEM-related careers.

Founded in 2005, Kutlwanong is focused on nurturing a talent pool of professionals pursuing careers in critical fields such as commerce, engineering, science, mining, technology, and mathematics. Over the past 19 years, Kutlwanong has cultivated thinkers, motivated innovators, and groomed the leaders of tomorrow, enabling youth to contribute meaningfully to the economy. They have assisted more than 40,000 township-based youth to achieve solid passes (50% and above) in mathematics and physical science plus 12-000 township Grade 12 youth to achieve maths and science distinctions (80% and above).

“Our support for Kutlwanong aligns perfectly with Audi’s commitment to progress,” adds Sauer. “By investing in the next generation of inventors, scientists and engineers, we ensure that the legacy of innovation continues.”

“This extraordinary donation by Audi South Africa means so much,” says Tumelo Mabitsela, CEO of Kutlwanong. “The funds we’ve received will go toward further supporting our work to assist students to pursue STEM careers. This will ensure that South African youth participate in, and are equipped for, the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

The auction provided attendees and bidders with the chance to support a cause that will have a lasting impact on the future of South Africa’s youth, while enjoying a significant moment in automotive history.
