Volvo’s most fuel-efficient truck ever – the Volvo FH Aero – is the winner of the 2025 Green Truck award. The Volvo FH Aero offers a combination of good aerodynamics and an efficient powertrain, resulting in savings in fuel and CO2 according to an independent test.
The annual Green Truck test is a comprehensive and independent comparative press test to identify the most fuel-efficient long-haul truck, organized by the German trade magazines Trucker and Verkehrs-Rundschau.
“I am so proud to see an external test confirming that our Volvo FH Aero really delivers superior fuel efficiency, saving CO2 and running costs for our customers every day”, says Jan Hjelmgren, Head of Product Management at Volvo Trucks.
“We will continue to innovate and introduce improvements of fuel efficiency which benefits both the climate and the productivity of transport companies. Fuel consumption represents a major part of the operational costs of our customers, so we know that our efforts make a difference.”
This year’s winner is the Volvo FH Aero with a 420hp D13 engine and Volvo’s I-Save package, as well as the company’s new Camera Monitor System, which saves fuel thanks to its positive impact on aerodynamics. The Volvo truck performed an average fuel consumption of 21,20 liter/100km on a test route defined by the organizer.
Roger Alm, President Volvo trucks said: “With the Green Truck win, Volvo Trucks has a hattrick! First, we were the only brand to score five stars in Euro NCAP’s first ever safety test for trucks, then we became the biggest heavy truck brand in Europe in 2024, and now the Volvo FH Aero is the most fuel-efficient truck in an independent test – I am so proud of all these achievements!”
The Volvo FH Aero was introduced early 2024 and features a new aerodynamic cab design which saves up to 5% in fuel consumption and carbon emissions versus the regular Volvo FH. The tested model is powered by Volvo’s reliable and efficient D13 diesel engine with I-Save which is a package of fuel saving powertrain and software features.
The new Volvo FH Aero model series is available in four versions – the FH Aero, FH Aero Electric, FH Aero gas-powered and the FH16 Aero. The diesel- and gas-powered versions of the Volvo FH and FH Aero can be run on renewable fuels such as biogas, biodiesel and HVO, significantly reducing CO2 emissions.
