  • The new Alfa Romeo Tonale has evolved in terms of its character and sportiness, based on the refinement of its excellent dynamic qualities, meaning it can offer an exciting driving experience and its recognizable Alfa Romeo appeal.
  • EXTERIOR: The exterior design is even more iconic with sculpted proportions, a wider wheel track, new concave badge, refreshed Trilobe and new 19/20” wheels that convey greater strength and dynamism.
  • INTERIORS: The passenger compartment has been refreshed with new trim in red leather and two-tone Alcantara in black and white, central tunnel with more functional gear selector and new ambient light with gradient effect visuals.
  • COLOR PALETTE: eight colors are now available, with the new metallic Rosso Brera, Verde Monza, and Giallo Ocra, plus an optional black roof to make the car even more distinctive and customizable.
  • DRIVING DYNAMICS: in the lead with perfect weight distribution, the most direct steering in the segment, dedicated Brembo brakes, the latest brake by wire and advanced technologies such as electronic suspension and Q4 AWD.
  • TECHNOLOGY & COMFORT: Fully digital interface with dual 12.3” and 10.25” displays, wireless connectivity and OTA updates, Level 2 assisted driving, 360° camera and semi-automatic parking.
  • NEW LINE-UP: a clear and comprehensive new strategy: from the new entry-level Tonale version, already packed with specifications, to more distinctive versions such as Sprint, Ti and the top-of-the-range Veloce.
  • Available at launch, the “Sport Speciale” special series represents the most exclusive expression of the Tonale line-up with top-of-the-range equipment, exterior and interior look, dedicated finishes, black and white Alcantara seats.

Alfa Romeo is unveiling to the international press the New Tonale, a new chapter for the global model, which now offers more colors, and more trims.  A significant milestone in the history of Alfa Romeo’s first C-SUV with a targeted intervention to further boost its sporty character and the appeal of a recognizably Alfa Romeo design. International award-winning and highly appreciated by the general public, the new model refines the brand’s renowned excellence – perfect weight balance, first-class driving dynamics, segment-leading technological and engine solutions – and adds further appeal to the distinctive design, the main reason for customers to go for it.

Alfa Romeo has decided to present the New Tonale in Pisa for its symbolic value: a center of art and culture, but also a site of scientific and technological excellence with the Scuola Normale Superiore, at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence. Pisa is therefore the ideal setting for the New Tonale, which expresses the same Italian beauty and excellence, as well as embodying the concept of Human Intelligence, i.e. the ability to transfer authentic emotions, which come about when passion meets technology. For Alfa Romeo, all this translates into the characteristic pleasure, emotions, and fun of driving.

Santo Ficili | Ceo Alfa Romeo: “With the New Tonale, Alfa Romeo reaffirms its commitment to delivering Italian excellence through innovation, design, and driving emotion. This evolution is not just about performance – it’s about creating a deeper connection between car and driver, where technology enhances passion and every detail reflects our heritage. Behind every New Tonale lies a story of dedication and precision, made possible by the extraordinary teamwork of our suppliers, dealers, sales and after-sales network, and all Alfa Romeo employees. Their passion and commitment are essential in making this launch a true success.”

Design that inspires emotions

For Alfa Romeo, beauty is never an abstract concept, but arises from the encounter between harmonious proportions, elegance of surfaces, muscularity of lines, and technical functionality. It is a “necessary beauty,” where there is a specific reason for every detail, assisting in the definition of the car’s character. The New Tonale fully embodies this philosophy, drawing on the brand’s unparalleled heritage and reinterpreting the stylistic features that have made it a success around the world. First of all, the front features the new three-dimensional concave badge, inspired by the historic 33 Stradale and GT 2000.

The legendary Trilobe has also been reinterpreted, to maximize the sense of horizontality and immediately give the impression of a car firmly rooted on the ground. Plus, the lower air intakes boost the family feeling with Alfa Romeo Junior, while the extra side openings have been reworked in the racing language of the iconic Giulia GTA and GTAm.

The balance of proportions has been improved by a reduced front overhang and a wider front and rear wheel track.  Its profile immediately catches the eye for the new 19” Stile wheels with a design faithful to tradition and the 20″ Fori, with a technical and modern design, lighter than the previous wheels. Finally, the black and white front and rear Alfa Romeo emblems, consistent with the strategy launched by the Junior, and the black Tonale rear lettering on the Veloce and Sport Speciale trims complete the aesthetic update.

Interior

The New Tonale’s passenger compartment has evolved with premium materials and details, introducing new combinations of colors and finishes, such as the new “cannelloni” (ribbed weave) seats upholstered in red leather with coordinated stitching or in two-tone black/white Alcantara, the latter paired with the feature-rich dashboard upholstered in Alcantara with contrasting stitching. The interior is enriched with contrasting stitching on the dashboard, door panels, and armrest, varying according to the type of seats selected. The leather or Alcantara interiors are fitted with premium seats with eight-way electrical adjustment in the front, along with four-way electrical lumbar support, heating and ventilation; the steering wheel and washer nozzles are also heated for complete comfort in all seasons. The new rotary gear selector, positioned on the redesigned center console, combines modernity and functionality, and also make it possible to change gears using the iconic billet aluminum paddles on the steering wheel.

Finally, in the Sport Speciale launch edition only, a new multicolored gradient-effect ambient light is available on the dashboard, the design of which is inspired by the skin of a serpent, Alfa Romeo’s famous Biscione, for an extra touch of modernity and character in the passenger compartment. But the beauty of the Tonale blends with sportiness in the most contemporary sense, going beyond the traditional concept of pure performance to embrace that of driving pleasure, Italian style, and everyday dynamism. This is the sportiness of the 21st-century Alfa Romeo and the New Tonale proves that, addressing those who experience sportiness as a lifestyle, expressed through higher-category specifications – in many cases unique in the segment – such as semi-automatic parking, ventilated front seats and wireless charger, electrochrome wing mirrors, and dual-zone climate control with automatic recirculation (Air Quality System).

Broader color palette

For Alfa Romeo, color has always been much more than an aesthetic choice: it is an emotional language, a hallmark that speaks of passion, innovation and the Italian spirit. To celebrate such a profound and noticeable dimension, the color palette for the new Tonale has expanded to eight shades, with the introduction of three new metallic paints: Rosso Brera, Verde Monza, and Giallo Ocra. Each of these has its own way to enhance the car’s volumes and lines, with the three new body colors joining the current Nero Alfa, Bianco Alfa, Grigio Vesuvio, Verde Montreal, and Blu Misano. The optional contrasting black roof, also available in combination with the sunroof, further enhances the car’s dynamism and elegance; it is the ideal component to make your Tonale even more unique.

Driving dynamics: the essence of Alfa Romeo DNA

At the heart of every Alfa Romeo is the ability to transform technology into driving emotions; this approach resulted in the creation of the New Tonale. First the mechanics, then the electronics, always at the service of the driver’s pleasure: its unmistakable handling is defined by a perfectly balanced chassis with optimum weight distribution, independent McPherson suspension with sporty calibration in both the front and rear, four-piston Brembo brakes and the most direct steering in the segment, with a ratio of 13.6:1. These solutions are flanked by advanced technologies such as Dual Stage Valve (DSV) electronic suspension or alternative Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers, for optimal balance between comfort and handling, the brake-by-wire system as seen in the Giulia and Stelvio, and Q4 AWD all-wheel drive on the Ibrida Plug-In, to offer the best compromise between stability, safety, and dynamism.

To complete the experience, the aluminum paddles fixed to the steering column ensure maximum pleasure in handling gears, while the Alfa DNA selector means the car’s character can be adapted to suit preferences and driving style. The overall result is a combination that encapsulates the essence of the brand: agility, precision, reliability, and the unique ability to excite anyone who gets behind the wheel. Objective data also serve as confirmation: fast cornering times demonstrate excellent behavior, in line with that of the Stelvio, a world benchmark among SUVs for driving pleasure.

The New Tonale has evolved even further with an augmented wheel track, which helps to reduce roll and understeer, with engines updated to the Euro 6E-bis standard – total output of 175 hp for the Ibrida and 270 hp for the Ibrida Plug-In – and with a refined Hybrid Control Processor, which makes delivery more prompt, linear, and continuous. The transitions between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor are now imperceptible, all for the sake of comfort. In particular, the New Tonale is offered with a line-up of engines designed to cover differing market demand and a varied customer base. The Tonale Ibrida has a four-cylinder 175-hp 1.5 Turbo engine with variable-geometry turbo (VGT), made solely for the Tonale, combined with 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and front-wheel drive, representing the latest evolution of the brand’s 48V hybrid technology. For those who prefer diesel, the 130-hp 1.6 Diesel is available with 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, ensuring limited fuel consumption and an ideal solution even for intensive use.

The top of the range is the Q4 Ibrida Plug-In variants, with electrified all-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. The line-up includes two power levels: a 190-hp version and a more powerful 270-hp model, representing the maximum expression in terms of the New Tonale’s performance and technological efficiency.

Technology to simplify, safety to reassure

The New Tonale boasts a comprehensive technology package, designed to offer segment-leading safety, connectivity and comfort, in perfect harmony with the brand’s approach that never sees technology as an end in itself, but is designed to be useful, simple, and always at the service of the driver. In detail, the 12.3-inch Telescope digital instrument panel and 10.25-inch Alfa Connect infotainment system with customizable multitasking interfaces make it easy to manage all in-car functions, in a smartphone-like experience. Connectivity is total, thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alfa Connect digital services and over-the-air (OTA) updates that keep the software up to date at all times.

On the safety front, the car guarantees the utmost, as demonstrated by its 5-star Euro NCAP rating, offering a package of advanced Level 2 driving assistance functions, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Path Detection, Driver Attention Monitoring, as well as the traffic sign recognition system with Intelligent Speed Assist and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection. In addition to these features, two major new technologies improve comfort and simplify driving: high-resolution 360° camera with “drone view” and semi-automatic parking, which facilitate maneuvers in all conditions.

Finally, in-car comfort and experience are elevated by a premium 470-W Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers and subwoofer, ventilated wireless charging for smartphones, hands-free electric tailgate, dual-zone climate control with AQS sensor, electrochrome rearview and wing mirrors, and heated and ventilated front seats.

New line-up strategy

With its new line-up strategy, the Alfa Romeo Tonale consolidates its position in the market, with a comprehensive proposal that can realize the needs of a wider audience. This goal is achieved according to a clear approach: to maintain current price levels while introducing a new entry-level version, to make the Biscione brand’s sporty C-SUV even more competitive and accessible. Plus, a comprehensive engine line-up – diesel, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid – and a revised offer strategy, starting with the entry-level Tonale version, already packed with specifications, and continuing with the Sprint, Ti, and Veloce versions.

The entry level is entrusted to the Tonale version, which represents the access point to the Alfa Romeo world without sacrificing a wealth of comprehensive specifications. Aesthetically, it stands out for its Full LED headlights and taillights with the characteristic 3+3 light signature and 17-inch diamond-cut Aerodinamico wheels. The interior features black fabric and Scuba seats with the “Biscione” logo, contrasting Biscotto stitching on the dashboard and door panels, and a leather steering wheel. The tech specs include the 12.3-inch Telescope digital instrument cluster, Alfa Connect infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display with wireless mirroring, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as connected services.

Comfort is guaranteed by the keyless system, the dual-zone automatic climate control with air quality sensor, 60/40 splitable rear seats with armrest and space for skis, electrochrome interior rearview mirror and electrically adjustable wing mirrors. Safety is ensured by advanced systems such as Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Auto, front and rear parking sensors with rear camera, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Monitoring.

Higher in the line-up is the new Sprint version, enriched by adding extra stylistic features for a greater perceived quality. The gloss black body kit with contrasting accents in matte Dark Miron gray, tinted windows and 18” Petali wheels with two-tone finish reinforce the sporty character, while in the interior the aluminum door sills and pedals stand out together with the multicolored ambient lights. The infotainment system is enriched with integrated navigation, which can also be viewed on the Telescope instrument panel.

This brings us to the Ti version, the heart of the Tonale’s premium offering. The exterior stands out for its gloss black window frames and the dedicated badge on the fenders. The passenger compartment expresses a higher level of comfort with red or black leather seats, electrically adjustable eight ways with electric lumbar support, heated and ventilated, together with the steering wheel and heated washer nozzles. The specifications include aluminum paddle shifters for an even more engaging driving experience.

Finally, the top of the range is the Veloce, enhancing the sporty character of the Tonale. The design is enriched with new 19-inch Stile wheels, dedicated badge on the mudguards, Full LED Matrix headlights, red Brembo brake calipers, twin chrome tailpipes in the Plug-in Hybrid version, and rear Tonale logo in black. Driving dynamics benefit from DSV dual-valve electronic suspension, designed to combine stability, comfort, and precision.

Tonale Sport Speciale, a launch edition that elevates Italian sportiness to its apex

Completing the offer is the Special Launch Edition, designed as a tribute to contemporary sportiness interpreted by the Tonale. Known as Speciale, it represents the most exclusive expression of the line-up, with top-of-the-range specifications and equipment: the utmost exterior and interior look.

The standout features of the exterior are the silver accents on the side skirts and rear bumper, gloss-black Brembo brake calipers, and white Alfa Romeo lettering; inside, the exclusive seats in black and white Alcantara, dashboard fascia upholstered in Alcantara, contrasting white stitching and ambient lights with specific visuals on the dashboard. The launch edition offers customization options in all the colors in the line-up palette, including a contrasting black roof.
