Originally a 1995 model. the stallion had done its time before it had come to Manase. The car itself had worked for its living as John Astbury and then Raj Hassen’s car, erecting all the fences for Molepolole infrastructure project in 1996. Continuous work with multiple drivers across Botswana.
The original engine went around the clock 8 times, meaning it had done well over 800,000 km before we acquired for P20,000 pula. And it was the very first car to be used under the Manase name. The stallion continued to be a workhorse, being present and very much involved in all projects done by Manase.
The stallion had done its miles many times, being involved in accidents and even a crash but this was one of the 3 times the car had had serious work done to it. and in 2018, the car was put into retirement indefinitely, being that it needed so much work doing to it. basically, needing for almost every part to be replaced or have work done to it, for it to shine like its glory days.
For a long time, it sat, many pondered about the car, asking why it sat stagnant in our yard? Doing nothing. As time went on many believed it would not stand again. Becoming a part of ancient history left in ruin.
Our managing director, always dreamt of bring back the car. it boasted so many memories, as well as being a company icon and a symbol of how far we’ve come.
And in 2023, that dream came true.
The stallion was taken from its parking spot and brought to blue chip who were tasked with restoring the stallion from scratch. We were adamant on only using authentic Toyota parts to return the car back to its full glory. And it took well over a year for the car to begin to take its basic shape. The car spent many days waiting for parts which were a real trouble sourcing. Sometimes even wondering if the car would be completed. Going all over the country for parts in good condition.
Changing the bumper, tailgate and bed completely.
Finally in December 2023, we began to see the Station take true form again. Having the whole car being brought back to life, only missing a few parts.
The stallion returns to action for its 3rd tour, a pleasure to drive and real trip down memory lane for us at Manase. Being that it is a true time capsule.
The only music you will hear is from the engine, the only ac you will get is from the windows and you can reach both door handles in the car from where you are seated. It does not have keyless entry, but it does have real character, doing well over 1,200,000 km in its life.
The return of the stallion, still going hard! 26 years on!
