  • World Champion Pascal Wehrlein second with fastest lap
  • Da Costa P3 for factory team’s third double-podium of the year
  • Improved wet weather performance across quali and race

The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team has returned to the top of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams’ standings after a double-podium in Shanghai. World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and teammate António Félix da Costa finished second and third. The pair started the race third and second respectively following a very wet qualifying session. It is the fourth podium finish of the season for both drivers. It is also the third double-podium of the season for the team.

Wehrlein scored an additional point for setting the fastest race lap in the highly efficient Porsche 99X Electric. The overall performance in the race as well as in qualifying saw an improvement over the wet conditions in Monaco and Tokyo. Wehrlein has regained second place in the Drivers’ Championship with da Costa now back to third. Porsche has closed the gap to the top of the manufacturers’ classification and lies second.

Nico Müller finished in sixth place to score points for the Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E.

The delayed race had started behind the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT safety car due to the rain. Green flag running took place from lap 8 onwards to complete 31 laps. With the third Free Practice session shortened due to the conditions, teams had almost no running in the wet in Shanghai before qualifying got underway.

Comments on the Shanghai E-Prix
Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E:
“It was a very strong result today in very tricky and challenging wet conditions with Pascal in P2 and António in P3. This was the correct answer from the whole team and both drivers following the result yesterday. We executed well for the whole day. The improvements in the wet also came from very concentrated work in the wet in Monaco and Tokyo as we had to make up for a lack of rain in testing with the new car. We are really happy with these points and regaining the lead in the Teams’ Championship by a single point. It will be a very hard fight to the end of the year. Overall – with three Porsche in the top six with Nico Müller – we can be very happy.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#1): “I’m very happy with P2 on the podium today. It was a strong result and the pace was very good. Not good enough for P1, but we were quite far ahead of the rest of the field. Big thanks to the team. It’s the first time I felt comfortable in wet conditions which was not the case in Monaco and Tokyo. It’s great to see that we drew the right conclusions from there. We have five more races to go and we will keep fighting hard.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche factory driver (#13): “That’s better! With both cars on the podium it’s a bit more like it. It was a good day for the team and we will build some momentum from this and go after some wins in the second half of the season.”
