  • International one-make cup kicks off its 33rd season in Imola
  • 31 drivers from 14 countries tackle the first of eight rounds in 2025 on the Formula 1 circuit in northern Italy
  • The Supercup represents the pinnacle of Porsche’s one-make cups worldwide and serves as a training ground for the Porsche Junior programme

The 33rd season of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup gets underway this weekend at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, from 16 to 18 May. The international one-make cup series features the circa 375 kW (510 PS) Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and will again run as part of the Formula 1 support programme, with a total of eight races on the calendar. Twenty-three drivers from ten nations have registered for the full season, including Porsche Juniors Theo Oeverhaus from Germany and Alessandro Ghiretti from France.

Nine teams will contest the new Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season, with a total of 28 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars entered for all eight races. Five of those entries will feature rotating drivers. Among the permanently registered competitors, the Netherlands fields the largest contingent with seven drivers, while three 911 will race under the German flag. Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus from Germany is teaming up in the Proton Huber Competition squad with seasoned Dutch driver Jaap van Lagen. “I already feel very comfortable in my new team,” declares Oeverhaus, looking ahead to the season opener. “We have a strong basis, and I’m really looking forward to Imola. The track suits my driving style. Qualifying will be particularly crucial because overtaking is tough with such fierce competition, so a grid spot at the front is key to fighting for top positions.”

Alessandro Ghiretti, the second Porsche Junior, continues his partnership with the Schumacher CLRT team. The Frenchman enjoyed a standout 2024 season, finishing fifth overall in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup while also claiming championship titles in both the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and the Porsche Carrera Cup France. Fresh off a commanding one-two finish in the third race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland at Spa-Francorchamps, Ghiretti and teammate Theo Oeverhaus head to the Supercup opener in Imola with a strong tailwind.

The same goes for Ghiretti’s new teammate at Schumacher CLRT, Dutchman Flynt Schuring. The 18-year-old, younger brother of Porsche DTM driver Morris Schuring, won Saturday’s race on the Ardennes rollercoaster at Spa-Francorchamps. A newcomer to the Supercup, Schuring will benefit from the guidance of three-time champion Larry ten Voorde, who has stepped away from active competition in Porsche’s one-make cups.

Among the aspirants with high ambitions are the two drivers from BWT Lechner Racing. Dutch racer Robert de Haan, just 18 years old, turned heads at the season-opening round of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland in Imola last month, clinching two commanding victories. His French teammate Marvin Klein is last year’s highest-placed driver to be competing again in this Supercup season. “Of course, I want to challenge for the championship crown,” reveals Klein, who finished third overall in the 2024 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. “Up against such a competitive field, it’s hard to make predictions, but our preparation during testing in Barcelona at the end of April went well. We’ll take another good look at all the data to make sure we’re fully ready for Imola. The key will be qualifying at the front – then anything is possible in the race.”

Keegan Masters is also heading into his third Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season with big aspirations. After wrapping up the 2024 season fourth overall, the South African remains with his Ombra Racing team. “That’s a positive because we work well together. I’m very confident about the season, even though the competition in the Supercup seems to get tougher every year. I’m really looking forward to Imola – especially since it’s my team’s home turf. We’re well-prepared for the opening weekend, but we won’t truly know where we stand until qualifying. As always, the grid position could be crucial.”

Ten newcomers and two new teams boost the grid lineup
Ten drivers are set to contest their first full season in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, which also welcomes two new teams to the grid: Spanish outfit Hadeca Racing has signed on Mikel Azcona Troyas. The Spaniard brings an impressive résumé, having claimed titles in both the World and European Touring Car Cups.

The Italian Target team, successful in both the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland and touring car racing, will enter two Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for German drivers Janne Stiak and Alexander Tauscher. Stiak turned 18 in March, making him the youngest of the permanently registered participants. Tauscher made a strong impression during official testing in Barcelona, clocking the fastest time in one of the four sessions. The Bavarian heads to Imola full of confidence: “We were able to try out a lot during the tests and found a good baseline setup. The Autodromo Imola is a special, time-honoured racetrack, and it’s one I personally really enjoy. I’m heading to the race weekend feeling optimistic.”

Frenchman Mathys Jaubert, racing alongside Englishman Aaron Mason for the French squad Martinet by Alméras, was another driver to turn the fastest lap in one session during testing in Barcelona. Italian outfit Dinamic Motorsport and the Dutch team GP Elite are also returning, with GP Elite fielding an impressive six Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars for the season opener in Imola.

Additionally, eight guest drivers will join the grid at Imola, bringing the total to 31 cars for the 15-lap sprint on the Formula 1 circuit.

“Even in its 33rd season as part of the Formula 1 support programme, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup has lost none of its appeal,” states Oliver Schwab, Project Manager Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. “We’re delighted with the influx of new drivers and teams like Target and Hadeca Racing, as well as the return of seasoned entrants. The Barcelona test sessions underlined how fiercely competitive the field is, and I’m confident we’ll deliver a thrilling show for fans both at the track and watching from home.”

Eight races as part of Formula 1
The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will continue to race exclusively as part of the Formula 1 support programme in the 2025 season, with eight European Grand Prix races on the calendar. The season kicks off with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy’s Imola. Italy also hosts the final round in the Royal Park of Monza. In between, the teams will travel to Monaco before continuing to Barcelona (Spain), Spielberg (Austria), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Budapest (Hungary), and Zandvoort (Netherlands).

Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, Imola (Italy)
Opened in 1953, the racetrack on the outskirts of Imola is one of the most storied circuits in Formula 1, returning here in 2020 after a 13-year hiatus. The 4.909-kilometre rollercoaster course follows the natural contours of the hills around the Emilia-Romagna region. On 25 April 1993, the Porsche Supercup celebrated its world debut on the racetrack named after the Ferrari founder and his son. Until 2006, the then San Marino Grand Prix was a regular fixture on the Supercup calendar. Since 2022, Imola has returned to Porsche’s international one-make cup calendar with the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix.
