Killarney’s second Multiplex Event of 2024 on Saturday 9 March delivers all-day action with MSA Drag Racing, Short Circuit Racing, Rallycross and an IASCA Sound-OFF in the Joubert Pits – all for the price of one ticket!
Get yours online from https://www.ticketmaster.co.za/artist/killarney-raceway-tickets/1207473 at R90 for adults, R20 for under-16s and free for under-12s, or on the day at the gate (cash or card!) at R120 for adults, R20 for scholars under 16 and free for children under 12. And, as always, WPMC members get in free on production of your membership book at the gate.
There will be a variety of food and drinks on sale from upmarket vendors (including halaal) who know just how to re-fuel motorsport fans – but you’re also welcome to bring your cooler box and gazebo, light up your skottelbraai and make a day of it.
Drag Racing under MSA rules is all about purpose built drag racers, lightweight bodies fitted with highly modified, insanely powerful engines, sequential gearboxes and huge ultrasoft ‘wrinkly’ tyres. But there are classes for everything, including superbikes and street cars, so you’re guaranteed a full day of straight-line action.
Big names on the entry list include Hermann Mostert’s record-setting 2JZ-powered Nissan Champ pick-up, Shamiel Khan in a Nissan Sentra, Uzair Killa’s indecently quick Opel Corsa and, among the street cars, Tashendra Jamokeeah‘s Nissan GTR R35.
Motorcycle entries include David Carr and Zaahir Cozyn, each on a Suzuki GSX-R750, and David’s wife Kim on her Honda CBR600, facing off against Taugeed Alexander’s similar Honda.
This is the real thing – American-style drag racing, complete with a ‘Christmas Tree’ of yellow lights counting down to an explosive launch. Blink and you’ll miss the blast-off, although the sound that accompanies a top drag racer getting off the line is impossible to ignore!
Then there’s the IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association) Sound-off in the Joubert Pits. Local and national competitors will vie for the loudest onboard sound systems, with readings in the region of 150 dB – that’s about as loud as a jet fighter on take-off! – from cars with batteries the size of bar fridges powering megawatt amps and cavernous speakers via multiple cables as thick as your thumb.
