Lamborghini Squadra Corse will write a new page in its history by entering the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship as an official factory team for the very first time, fighting for overall honours at the season-opening 24 Hours at Daytona this weekend.

Competing as Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the Lamborghini SC63 enters its second season of racing after making its debut in both the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships in 2024. This year, Squadra Corse has elected to concentrate its efforts purely on the Michelin Endurance Cup rounds of the North American series.

Having made its IMSA bow at Sebring last season, Lamborghini Squadra Corse therefore is embarking on its first full campaign in the Endurance Cup, utilising the highly experienced quartet of Mirko Bortolotti, Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara for the opening round of the year.

Bortolotti and Kvyat move over from the WEC programme and will contest all five rounds of the IMSA Endurance Cup season at the wheel of the #63 Lamborghini SC63. They will team up with Grosjean, who returns to the Lamborghini fold following a number of impressive drives in 2024, most notably in the early stages of the Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis where the Frenchman mastered wet conditions to lead. The trio will benefit from the expertise and prowess of Mortara at Daytona, before the Swiss driver embarks on a GT3 campaign with Lamborghini for the remainder of 2025.

Lamborghini will also be entered in a full season of IMSA in the GTD Pro class, with Canadian outfit Pfaff Motorsports joining as a factory-supported team in both the Sprint and Endurance Cup championship. Full season drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Marco Mapelli will be joined by fellow Lamborghini factory driver Jordan Pepper for Daytona while former IndyCar Series and long-time Pfaff Motorsport driver James Hinchcliffe will be the Endurance Cup co-driver.

In GTD, Wayne Taylor Racing returns for another full-season assault. Lamborghini Young Professional driver Danny Formal leads the team’s efforts alongside 2017 Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals winner Trent Hindman. Youngster Graham Doyle joins for the five Endurance Cup rounds, while last year’s full-season driver Kyle Marcelli will race at Daytona. Keen to build on the past two successful seasons, Forte Racing will field a full-season entry of Misha Goikhberg and the experienced Mario Farnbacher, with Franck Perera contesting the Endurance rounds. NASCAR veteran Parker Kligerman joins the team at Daytona.

Lamborghini has a strong record in the Daytona 24 Hours, having won the event in three successive years between 2018 and 2020. Two years after it made its first appearance, it achieved its maiden win courtesy of Grasser Racing Team (Mirko Bortolotti, Rolf Ineichen, Rik Breukers and Franck Perera). A year later, it bagged another win in a red-flag impacted race, while it completed the hat-trick in 2020 with Paul Miller Racing (Andrea Caldarelli, Marco Mapelli, Rolf Ineichen and Corey Lewis).

The weekend at a glance

Action has already begun at Daytona International Speedway with the two-day traditional pre-season Roar before the 24 taking place last weekend. The #63 finished inside the top five in two of the seven sessions, while action was temporarily halted on Sunday due to adverse weather.

The race weekend itself kicks off on Thursday with opening practice before heading into qualifying. FP2 then takes place on Thursday evening with the third and final practice held on Friday morning.
