- Jean-Eric Vergne passed the symbolic benchmark of 1 000 points scored in the ABB FIA Formula E championship last weekend in Mexico
- The Frenchman, Formula E’s only two-time champion, began his career in the all-electric championship back in 2014
- JEV, who is also a DS Automobiles ambassador, has racked up an impressive number of titles and podiums together with the French premium manufacturer
Jean-Eric Vergne has just broken another record. By claiming the eight points for sixth place at the Mexico E-Prix last Saturday, the only two-time champion in Formula E history has become just the second driver to break the threshold of 1 000 points scored in the all-electric series.
Since making his debut in Formula E, JEV has gone on to become one of the stars of the sport. In November 2014, he claimed pole position on his first participation in an E-Prix at the Punta Del Este circuit in Uruguay. The Frenchman then went on to hit the heights of success. In particular, he won two drivers’ titles with DS Automobiles in 2018 and 2019 and played a key role in securing two constructors’ championships for the manufacturer, where he is also a brand ambassador.
A key player in Formula E, Jean-Eric Vergne has so far racked up 115 races, 33 podiums, 11 wins, 15 pole positions and two drivers’ titles. These results have mostly been obtained with DS Automobiles during seven years together (Season 2 then Seasons 5 to 10).
Together with the current DS PENSKE team, Jean-Éric Vergne is still hungry for more success and titles, as a key figurehead for the renowned electric know-how of DS Automobiles all over the world.
The next E-Prix will take place at Diriyah in Saudi Arabia from January 26-27.
Eugenio Franzetti, DS Performance director:
“It’s actually quite easy to describe JEV: he’s a great champion and a great person! The intelligent race he drove in Mexico is a perfect reflection of the way he has managed his brilliant career. JEV has written, and continues to write, some of the most beautiful pages in the history of Formula E and therefore in the history of motorsport in general. Up to now, he is the only driver to have won two Formula E titles. As well as his numerous victories, this momentous record of 1 000 points demonstrates the impressive consistency that he has always shown throughout every championship he has taken part in. JEV is a great person, as he’s a kind, honest, and reliable character, which is why DS Automobiles chose him as a brand ambassador. We’re proud to celebrate this great achievement with him and we’re confident that there will be yet more to celebrate together in the future.”
Jean-Eric Vergne, 2018 and 2019 Formula E champion:
“This is a milestone that showcases the extent to which we have performed well since 2014. I’m obviously very proud of everything that’s been achieved in 10 years of Formula E, particularly thanks to a team of engineers with whom I have built up a great relationship based on trust and confidence. The competition now is closer than ever, so we are going to have to give it everything to win some more titles!”
Key figures since DS Automobiles entered Formula E:
