The LP Racing team’s No. 1 Maserati GT2 takes its first victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship Powered by Pirelli. The authors of the historic result were the drivers Leonardo Gorini and Carlo Tamburini in Race 1, the opening round of the season held on the Paul Ricard track. In Round 2 in France, another podium placing for Maserati, taking third in the LP Racing team’s second car from Modena, driven by Philippe Prette.
In the first 50-minute race, the No. 1 Maserati GT2, after starting from pole position having recorded the fastest time in the qualifiers, managed to remain in the lead until the finish line, resisting the attacks of its rivals. Conversely, Prette’s No. 2 Maserati, despite its second place in the first part of the race, was involved in an accident that caused it to lose ground. However, Prette managed to recover and finish in ninth place overall, guaranteeing him the bottom step on the podium on the Am Cup. Ahead of him in the same class, was the third Maserati GT2 racing this weekend, the number 24 of Alexandre Leroy from the TFT Racing team, who finished in seventh overall.
In Race 2, Philippe Prette’s Maserati GT2 took third overall, winning him the Am Cup. The other LP Racing car driven by Gorini and Tamburini, after starting from pole again, lost the lead after a few laps. The number 1, who slipped a few positions after the mandatory pit stop, made a splendid comeback to battle for victory, but after a contact at the end of the penultimate lap, it lost ground again, ending the race in thirteenth. Sixth place overall for Alexandre Leroy, who therefore took the third step on the podium of the Am Cup.
The next round of the Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli is scheduled to take place in Misano, Italy, from 17 to 19 May.
