At the second race weekend of the DTM season at the Lausitzring (GER), Schubert Motorsport achieved the first podium finishes with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO. René Rast (GER) made it onto the podium in both races – third on Saturday and second on Sunday after a photo finish. Marco Wittmann (GER) also had good pace, especially shining with second place on the grid on Sunday. Although he fell back due to a technical problem with the ABS during the race, he still collected points in both races, as he did at the season opener at Oschersleben (GER) – this time finishing fifth and eighth.
One of the keys to the strong results was the improved performance of both cars in qualifying. Good grip on the Lausitzring asphalt positively impacted the BMW M4 GT3 EVO lap times. Another key was the extremely good pit stops by the Schubert team.
They brought Rast forward in both races and especially on Sunday put him in a position to temporarily take the lead and even fight for victory until shortly before the finish. Ultimately, he had to let Jack Aitken (GBR, Ferrari) pass but won the sprint to the finish against Jules Gounon (AND, Mercedes) for second place in a photo finish.

Wittmann defended his second place at the start on Sunday but encountered severe problems in turn 1 after a few laps when the ABS on his car temporarily failed. He slid straight ahead with locked wheels, damaging his tyres. In the laps before the pit stop window opened, he lost many positions, but thanks to some strong overtaking manoeuvres during the race, he managed to fight back to eighth place. Overall, Schubert Motorsport has a strong points haul after two race weekends in the 2025 season. Rast is sixth in the driver standings with 47 points, and Wittmann is ninth with 39 points. In the team standings, defending champion Schubert Motorsport is third with 84 points.
At the season opener of the ADAC GT Masters, the three BMW M4 GT3 EVOs from the teams Schubert Motorsport and FK Performance Motorsport achieved top-ten results. The best position in each of the two races was sixth place for FK Performance Motorsport.
Björn Lellmann (Head of Customer Racing at BMW M Motorsport): “This weekend at the Lausitzring was very successful, especially for René Rast with third and second places. In the Sunday race, we showed a lot of action together with Mercedes and provided an exciting photo finish. It was very unfortunate for Marco Wittmann. He drove a great qualifying, with second place on the front row. That made us very proud. Unfortunately, he had bad luck in the Sunday race, but overall, he collected important points over the weekend with fifth and eighth positions. Everything is still possible for him. We can be satisfied and look forward to the next race weekend. In the ADAC GT Masters, we saw that we learned a lot this weekend. I am confident that we will present ourselves even stronger next time.”

Torsten Schubert (Team Principal Schubert Motorsport): “Of course, we can be satisfied with second and third places. That was not necessarily expected beforehand. In the end, even more could have been possible. I feel particularly sorry for Marco that he had the problem with the ABS. We need to look closely at how the temporary failure of the system occurred. It’s a shame that he lost many points because of it, even though he still managed to finish eighth and collect some points. Both drivers did a great job here, and the team was also fantastic during the pit stops.”
René Rast (#33 RoboMarkets BMW M4 GT3 EVO, R1: 3rd place, R2: 2nd place): “It was an amazing weekend. Third place yesterday, second place today – I think that was more than we hoped for before the weekend. If someone had told me that, I would have signed immediately. It was a good points haul, and the team did a great job throughout the weekend. Especially with the pit stops; I think today we were only able to take the lead because of the pit stops. Unfortunately, we didn’t quite have the pace of the Ferrari; my tyres just faded too early again. We need to work on that a bit more, but overall, it was a great team result for my car. It’s a shame that Marco’s race went the way it did. He could have been in contention for the win today. That would have been even better for the team.”
Marco Wittmann (#11 Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3 EVO, R1: 5th place, R2: 8th place): “Fifth place on Saturday was already a good result, and with second place on the grid, I went into the second race with confidence. The start was already very chaotic. Then my ABS failed, the wheels massively locked, and I went straight ahead. From then on, the race for a podium was over because the tyres were square. There was no real deceleration possible anymore, the car had no cornering behaviour, and it was just about getting through until the pit stop window opened to get fresh tyres. Overall, we have to say that the high grip on the track helped us but there was generally a positive trend seen this weekend, also in qualifying performance. Now it’s about continuing like this and repeating it.”
