German Chancellor Olaf Scholz joins VDA President Hildegard Müller, Bavarian Prime Minister Dr Markus Söder and Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter to officially open the second edition of the global platform for mobility, sustainability and tech, the IAA MOBILITY 2023.

“We are experiencing an exhibition of innovations here, a mobility festival that makes the future tangible and will inspire people: be it trailblazing solutions in the field of electromobility and digitalization, impressive progress in the expansion of the circular economy and energy efficiency or quantum technical leaps thanks to human and artificial intelligence: visitors will be able to see at first hand this performance strength and the great willingness of companies to change over the next few days – at the Open Space in Munich’s city center as well as on the trade fair center,” said VDA President Hildegard Müller in her opening speech.

“The motto of IAA MOBILITY is ‘Experience Connected Mobility’. That is more than a mere slogan; it is a promise: Digital networking, fast data processing, artificial intelligence, and real-time navigation – they will make mobility of the future better, safer and more comfortable for all of us. IAA MOBILITY is the platform for digital mobility, and also for sustainable mobility committed to climate protection and the conservation of resources. We have to think of both together. In order for climate-neutral and digital mobility to be developed, produced, exported and linked to jobs in Germany in the future as well, we need internationally competitive framework conditions,” Müller explained further.

German Chancellor Scholz inaugurates IAA MOBILITY

“The first mobility revolution started 135 years ago in Munich. And the second revolution, towards environmentally friendly mobility, also finds its home here at IAA MOBILITY. It’s the manufacturers of powerful, affordable, and beautiful electric cars that make e-mobility appealing,” says Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“IAA MOBILITY and Bavaria are a perfect match. We are committed to the car. Mobility is part of our Bavarian DNA and stands for progress and freedom. Future concepts for modern and sustainable mobility of tomorrow are presented here,” says the Bavarian Prime Minister Dr Markus Söder.

“IAA MOBILITY is breaking new ground. The exhibition has transformed from a car show to a mobility platform. Munich is just the right location for this. Thanks to the interplay of excellent universities, the strong industrial companies based here in the transport and infrastructure sector and a very lively and creative start-up scene, Munich is almost predestined to further develop transport and mobility in an innovative way,” says Dieter Reiter, Lord Mayor of the City of Munich.

IAA MOBILTY more international than ever before

A total of almost 750 exhibitors from 38 countries will present over 300 world premieres and innovations. The increasing global relevance of IAA MOBILITY is evidenced by the rise in the number of international exhibitors to almost 50 percent. More than 3,500 journalists from 81 countries have become accredited for IAA MOBILITY.

Trade visitors can see for themselves the innovative power of the mobility industry at the IAA Summit at Munich Exhibition Center from 5th to 8th September. The IAA Summit and the accompanying IAA Conference are aimed exclusively at trade visitors (B2B) this time: The IAA Summit and the IAA Conference take place in six halls and offer inspiring keynotes, discussions and networking formats on three stages. More than 500 speakers from all over the world are expected at IAA MOBILITY 2023. In Munich’s city center, a mobility festival – the Open Space – is taking place free of charge for private visitors in eight places until September 10. Visitors can test 150 different vehicles on the streets there, as well as bicycles and e-bikes for the first time on a dedicated route in Munich’s Englischer Garten. The Citizen’s Lab on Munich’s Marienplatz offers discussions and workshops on the future of mobility and urban development, while children can experience fun activities and scavenger hunts. There is also a varied music program with free daily open air concerts on Munich’s Königsplatz.

“IAA MOBILITY combines expertise and public enthusiasm in an unprecedented manner in an innovative, dual concept. An unparalleled commitment to the future of mobility,” says Stefan Rummel, Co-CEO of Messe München. “At the Munich Exhibition Center, the IAA Summit offers trade visitors an exclusive platform to exchange ideas with industry experts, innovators and visionaries, and to deepen strategic partnerships. At the same time, the Open Space in the heart of Munich’s city center presents a first-class, free experience of the latest mobility innovations,” says Reinhard Pfeiffer, Co-CEO of Messe München.

IAA MOBILTY: Mobility of the future as a joint task

“The enormous transformation that we are currently mastering resolutely is a joint task. IAA MOBILITY brings together the key players – manufacturers and suppliers of the automotive industry, technology companies and startups, urban planners, energy suppliers and providers of other forms of mobility – bicycles, e-scooters, the railway and many more. We are deliberately and purposefully bringing them all together in order to display the diversity of people’s mobility needs. In this joint task, it is of paramount importance to involve people on the path to climate-neutral mobility of the future, to get them excited about the opportunities and possibilities and to take their needs seriously. Exchange and dialogue are crucial to meet the demands of society, politics and business. IAA MOBILITY is not only a world of experience for innovations and strategic solutions for the future, but also a central meeting point that enables and promotes constructive dialogue,” Müller emphasized.
