  • Chery and will also support UNICEF education programmes in China, Mexico, South Africa and Turkey;

Chery Automobile and UNICEF announced a new two-year, $6 million partnership, in support of education programmes around the world.

According to UNICEF’s State of Global Learning Poverty 2022, an estimated 70 per cent of the world’s 10-year-olds were unable to read and understand a simple sentence. This figure is up from 57 per cent before the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“We very much appreciate Chery’s support for UNICEF education programmes,” UNICEF Representative to China Amakobe Sande said. “This will help us provide quality education for some of the most vulnerable and marginalized children in China and around the world. It will also support countries to strengthen their education systems, to better serve children and communities.”

‘This partnership holds the potential to transform the lives of millions of children worldwide,’ added Carla Haddad Mardini, Director, UNICEF Private Fundraising and Partnerships, ‘Funding from Chery will help us support those children who need it most, opening up avenues of hope and opportunity to enable them to realize their potential and build brighter futures. I extend my warmest congratulations to Chery for embarking on this journey with us.’

The partnership was officially launched with a signing ceremony at the first Chery International User Summit in Wuhu, China.The attendees of this summit include Ningbo, Secretary of the Wuhu Municipal Committee, and Mr. Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holdings Group, and UNICEF’s Amakobe Sande, Representative to China, Sanaullah Panezai, Chief of Education, and Manuel Pinzon, Chief of Partnerships and Innovation.

The new partnership will help UNICEF tackle the learning crisis by supporting its global education programmes aimed at providing quality education to the most disadvantaged and marginalised children.

Chery will also support education programmes in China, Mexico, South Africa and Türkiye. This will include providing inclusive, healthy, and safe learning environments for children and adolescents, ensuring equal opportunities to learn and enhance their employability. Investing in education of the poorest children is the most cost-effective way to ensure a bright future for children, communities and countries.

At the signing conference, Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group, said: “Over its 26-year development, Chery has placed a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility. Chery has held a strong belief in taking responsibility and is actively engaged in global philanthropic activities, including disaster relief, environmental protection, targeted poverty alleviation, and education donation.

“Chery’s identity extends not only to a company that is dedicated to automotive R&D and manufacturing but also to a supporter of social responsibilities and historical significance. Chery will mobilize global resources, collaborate with partners from all sectors, and continue to contribute efforts to promote social progress and create a better way of life for all.

In 2022, UNICEF and partners enabled 37.8 million out-of-school children to receive a quality education, including 2.5 million children with disabilities, 3.1 million displaced children, and 18.6 million children affected by emergencies.

With Chery’s valuable contribution, UNICEF can continue to advance quality and inclusive education for millions of children around the world through its global education programmes and its and country led ones in China, Mexico, South Africa and Türkiye.

Chery has been expanding globally for 20 years, with operations in over 80 countries and regions worldwide. Practicing social responsibility is an indispensable part of Chery’s global strategy. Chery conducts a diverse range of public welfare activities in various fields such as green development, environmental protection, social welfare, and talent development in global markets.

Through this collaboration with UNICEF, Chery hopes to better promote the development of children’s education. In the future, Chery will continue to leverage its own advantages and influence, actively assume social responsibility, and ensure that more children have equal access to education and care
