  • World Champion Pascal Wehrlein finishes second
  • First podium for Cupra Kiro’s Porsche 99X Electric WCG3
  • Andretti Formula E makes it three Porsche inside the top four

All three Porsche teams finished inside the top four positions at Sunday’s ABB FIA Formula E World Championship Tokyo E-Prix. The race saw the Porsche 99X Electric and Cupra Kiro’s Porsche 99X Electric WCG3 customer car give strong performances, enabling Wehrlein and Ticktum to lead the race for many laps with Wehrlein challenging for the top spot to the end.

The current World Champion claimed his third podium of the season in second. Ticktum, who took his first-ever Formula E podium, finished in third position. Cupra Kiro’s 99X Electric WCG3 is powered by the twice championship-winning Porsche package from Formula E seasons 9 and 10.

Former World Champion Jake Dennis of the other Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E crossed the line fourth. The factory-run TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team and Andretti Formula E both race the current-gen Porsche 99X Electric.

Wehrlein’s teammate António Félix da Costa did not finish the race after contact with another car. The season 6 champion ran close to the top spots after a P7 start. Both him and Wehrlein as well as Ticktum had made it into duels in qualifying earlier on (Wehrlein started third, Ticktum second).

Wehrlein has now moved up to second in the drivers’ standings with three Porsche-powered drivers in the top five.

Florian Modlinger, Director Factory Motorsport Formula E: “Overall a very strong result for Porsche with three Porsche in the top four. Also, it is the first podium for our championship-winning car from the last two seasons with Dan Ticktum. Congratulations to Cupra Kiro. Also congratulations to Jake Dennis for P4. Pascal took P2 after fighting for the win for the whole race. In the end, after a very well-operated race, from the whole team, with more energy than the leader and a safety car in the last laps. A big thank you to our team, and we will try to come back even stronger in Shanghai with both cars. Unfortunately, António did not finish today. He was in P6 and could have finished in the top five.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche factory driver (#1): “We finished the race on the podium with P2. It was very close in the end. We were in a difficult situation by being a bit short on Attack Mode in the end. I tried to defend, we were up on energy and then we got unlucky with the safety car. On the one hand I’m very happy about P2 after a tough day yesterday but on the other hand I really wanted that win.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche factory driver (#13): “Not an easy day and today I put my hand up for a mistake. The race was going pretty well and I was making up some places just outside the top five. Going into the Full Course Yellow when everybody slows down to 50 km/h, I just misjudged it and touched the car in front. It was enough to damage my car’s suspension. I apologise to the team and everybody back home. But we’re still good. Next up is Shanghai. We won there last year so I have a lot of confidence. We will regroup and get some podiums in Shanghai.”
