Motocross fever is about to sweep through Botswana as Rounds 1 & 2 of the Botswana Motor Sport Motocross National Championship are officially set to tear through the Mmopane MX Track on Saturday, May 24th, 2025, hosted by none other than the dynamic Kalahari X-Country Racing Club. This much-anticipated season opener promises not just fast bikes and fierce competition, but an electric atmosphere fuelled by community spirit and a shared passion for off-road racing.
We sat with Roseline Mamaloukos, Chairperson of the Kalahari X-Country Racing Club and one of the visionaries behind the event, and from our conversation, one thing is crystal clear: motocross in Botswana has never looked this thrilling.
“High hopes and high-octane competition,” says Mamaloukos. “That’s what Rounds 1 and 2 promise. The entries are rolling in strong—we’ve got a great mix of homegrown heroes and standout competitors from the recent Sarona Desert Race. It’s going to be an adrenaline-charged weekend packed with tight battles and raw speed.”

From the roaring engines to daring jumps and bar-to-bar combat, spectators can look forward to a thrill-a-minute experience that captures the true essence of motocross.
Chosen as the launchpad for the 2025 season, Mmopane MX Track is more than just a venue—it’s a proving ground. “This is home soil for many of our riders,” Mamaloukos shares, “and the track’s size and layout allow us to safely accommodate a larger field of competitors. Once prepped, it’s built for intense, side-by-side racing at every level.”
Kalahari X-Country Racing Club anticipates a strong turnout, with 25–30 riders expected to lock horns across a full spread of classes. These include:
- 50cc, 65cc, 85cc (Junior classes)
- High School 125
- MX2 and MX1 (Intermediate to Pro-level)
- MX Ladies (Celebrating fierce female talent)
The 2025 roster is a balanced blend of experience and fresh fire.

A wave of new talent is cresting this year, and Roseline highlighted a few names that fans won’t want to miss:
Kosmas Mamaloukos, Euan Harmse, Bushe Moalosi, Lourens Erasmus, and Andile Mogorosi—each one a growing force in the sport, already showing signs of elite potential.
“These juniors are fast, fearless, and focused,” Roseline added. “They’re the future, and they’re already making waves now.”
While fans see the racing, it’s the behind-the-scenes hustle that makes it happen. “We’ve been working around the clock,” said Mamaloukos. “Track prep kicks off Monday morning at 8am sharp. We’re making sure it’s not just a racing surface, but a safe, world-class circuit. Trophies, flyers, social media promo—it’s all in motion.”

According to Mamaloukos, it’s the junior classes that are turning heads this year. “The level of competition is insane. It’s so tight you can’t even predict a winner. Every race could flip the leaderboard.”
This injection of young, hungry riders brings a fresh edge to the sport—motocross in Botswana isn’t just growing, it’s evolving.
As with any grassroots success story, it takes a village—and then some. “We’ve had amazing support from sponsors and the community,” Roseline said. “Even small contributions go a long way, but we’re still welcoming more partners. Every hand helps us build something bigger.”

The event isn’t just for die-hard motorsport fans—it’s for the whole family. With a gate fee of just P20 (and cooler boxes allowed in for free), the event is accessible and unforgettable.
- Jumping castles for the kids
- Food and drink stalls (vendor spots available at P300)
- Live music and festive vibes
- And of course, pure, unfiltered motocross action
“Bring your camp chairs, your cooler boxes, and your energy,” says Mamaloukos. “We’re creating a day where the whole community can come together and celebrate the sport.”

The Ross Branch Ripple Effect
Botswana’s own global motocross superstar, Ross Branch, has lit a fire under the sport’s growth locally. “Ross has made bikes cool,” said Roseline. “Because of him, we’re seeing a boom in off-road and motocross riders. The momentum is here, and we’re investing in it for long-term success.”
With the season just kicking off, the energy is already electric. “Our goal is simple,” Mamaloukos shared. “Clean, safe, action-packed racing, with hopes for more international collaboration in future rounds. We want Botswana on the global motocross map—and we’re well on our way.”
