The 2025 FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla wild card will be on the line at the Swedish Championship Final in Norrkoping on Tuesday, June 24.
The 2025 Swedish champion joins Sweden’s world No.3 Fredrik Lindgren in the nation’s biggest speedway event at Malilla’s Skrotfrag Arena on Saturday, July 5, with the FIM SGP2 of Sweden – Malilla also taking place on Friday, July 4 – the opening round of the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship.
Should Lindgren top the podium in Norrkoping and win his fifth Swedish title, the national championship runner-up will be handed the famous No.16 wild-card race jacket for Malilla.
Mikael Karlsson, sports manager for track racing at Swedish national governing body SVEMO, is expecting an exciting battle for the right to race in the FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla.
He said:“The Swedish Championship Final is always a hotly-contested event, and there’s no doubt the opportunity to fly the Swedish flag on the Speedway GP stage in Malilla only raises the stakes even higher.
“We have seen the likes of Oliver Berntzon and Kim Nilsson compete in Speedway GP in recent times, while Jacob Thorssell impressed alongside Fredrik Lindgren when Sweden won FIM Speedway of Nations bronze in Manchester last summer. We have young riders who will also be keen to earn their place in the spotlight, including 2024 SGP2 riders Philip Hellstrom-Bangs and Casper Henriksson.
“Competition will be fierce for the right to race in Malilla, and I look forward to seeing who comes out on top in the Swedish Championship Final and earns this fantastic opportunity.”
Lindgren and this year’s FIM Swedish Speedway GP wild card will compete with the world’s biggest stars, including five-time Speedway GP world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, who raced to a fourth SGP win in Malilla last season – setting a new all-time record of 24 SpeedwayGP victories in the process. He has since extended that mark to 26.
Also on track will be Latvian ace Andzejs Lebedevs, who races for Malilla club Dackarna in Sweden’s Bauhaus Elitserien, along with his 2024 teammate Dan Bewley, who topped the 2023 FIM Swedish Speedway GP podium.
